About Kota Market: Independent Shopping Guides for Kota

Kota Market is an independent website about shopping in Kota, Rajasthan. It started as a project to help people in Kota find local products and the people who make and sell them. Today its main public work is a library of practical shopping guides: how to buy genuine Kota Doria, what to check in Kota stone, how to shop the city’s markets, how to buy chargers and used phones safely, and how local makers can sell what they make.

What we cover

  • Kota Doria and crafts: the weave, how to spot power-loom copies, Kota stone, felt toys, antiques and decorating with local materials.
  • Markets and shopping: the city’s bazaars, bargaining, gifts and buying electronics safely.
  • Food and city life: Kota kachori, a day by the Chambal and the story of the coaching city.
  • Consumer rights: returns and refunds in shops and online, MRP and short weight, UPI fraud, warranties and filing a consumer complaint.
  • Home and student life: flooring choices, hiring tradespeople, renting a room and setting it up safely.
  • Selling and small business: pricing handmade work, registrations, GST bills and finding customers.

Who the guides are for

We write for four groups of readers:

  • People who live in Kota and want to buy well in their own city, from a Kota Doria saree to a new floor.
  • Students and parents arriving for coaching, who need to rent a room, set it up and shop safely in an unfamiliar city. Our rent agreement checklist and student room essentials guides start there.
  • Buyers elsewhere in India who want genuine Kota products and need to know what to check, such as the handloom labels and the Kota Doria GI tag.
  • Makers and small sellers in Kota who want to reach more customers and understand the rules that apply to them.

How we write

Our guides are written and maintained by the Kota Market editorial team. We aim to be practical and checkable:

  • Where a rule, registration or official tool is involved, we link to the official source.

  • We do not name individual shops in our guides, and nobody pays to be mentioned.

  • We do not publish star ratings, review counts or price lists we cannot back up.

  • We update guides when rules change and correct them when readers point out errors.

  • We check that the official links in a guide still work when we update it, and replace those that have moved.

What we are not

Kota Market is an independent website. It is not affiliated with any government department, the Geographical Indications registry, any trade association or coaching institute, or any of the shops and makers in the places we describe. Mentions of official marks and portals are for information only.

Earlier versions of this site

Earlier versions of Kota Market had individual author profile pages and a team page. Those addresses now lead here: the guides are maintained by one editorial team, credited on each guide.
