Why Kota Became India's Coaching Capital
Every year lakhs of students arrive in Kota chasing engineering and medical dreams. How did a quiet Rajasthani city become the country's study hub?
Mention Kota to a student anywhere in India and their eyes widen. Over the last three decades this city on the Chambal river has become the country's undisputed coaching capital, drawing lakhs of teenagers every year who dream of cracking IIT-JEE and NEET.
How it started
It began with a handful of gifted teachers who realised that focused, disciplined coaching could change results dramatically. Word spread, success stories multiplied, and an entire ecosystem grew around them β hostels, messes, libraries and, of course, shops.
A city built around students
Today whole neighbourhoods live on the student economy. Local businesses, from stationery stores to mobile-repair shops, thrive because of the young population. It is one reason a fast, local marketplace makes so much sense in Kota.
More than exams
Kota's coaching fame sometimes overshadows its heritage, its river and its crafts. We think the city is all of these at once β and that is worth celebrating.
